After last nights discussion of red lines and baits, I've found a few articles on what fish see. They are pretty varied however what is interesting is the fact that they may be able to see more of the colour spectrum than we can !!! Idea

Opinions please ? Any experts on the subject ?

It seems of late that the carp in Abbrook can't see my baits if that's any help snigger

There are some interesting articles here and I shall read them more thoroughly soon. I still think that if a fish is hungry and in the vacinity of food they will eat.

I dont know mate.

I know some people think fish can't see red but then why is the red maggot the best maggot and in pike fishing the bait saver is in red coz it attracks the fish and some of the colours on the fish is red????? scratch

I know mate! It's crazy how people think that the fish can't see red! As you say, red maggot does the biz, so does the red for the pike as you say! However, I do think that fish can be perceptive to rigs and recognize certain rigs, and wise up to them. This is where I believe anglers get an edge when using a different rig to others on the bank, but as for what fish actually see, it's hard to tell without getting the PETA involved. If scientists were to TRY to find out properly, then I personally think that it'll cause an outrage amongst them lot, and as we all know, anglers and them aren't on the best of terms (as i've unfortunately had to find out, ending up with me getting hit round the back of the head with a bit of scaffold pole) - barstools, absolute barstools.

im no expert but isnt it down to the way the light refracts (yes i mean refract and not reflect) off the line when its in the water? i think with the red line, while in the water becomes 'invisible' because it absorbs more of the light rays than the other colour lines, as in less light is refracted off of the line, therefore making it harder to see?
i would guess its the same kind of senario as being in a dark room with limited light exposure and looking for something black.....

What do fish see ? Empty red line ?

Post by elliott Thu Sep 10, 2009 1:47 pm

red line is good because it is the first colour in the colour spectrum to loose its colour i use it all the time seafishing had mullet on red line traces BUT i find this workes better in deep water and i find that blue line is shit as it attractes light but we all have differant ways thats wat makes us differant i do agree that red line is not good for carp fishing think the sea angler should keep it lol What do fish see ? What do fish see ? Empty advice

Post by elen Thu May 06, 2010 10:33 am

Just off the east coast of Australia, Great Barrier Reef is an idyllic spot for divers who will feel in love with this very marine fantasy. you will be observing unspoiled fertility of the underwater resources just like the way ecologists fancy the utmost richness of the Amazon. You have to try a
fantastic experience: Diving in the Great Barrier....it was very exciting!!
