smartcast mods
Hi all,
Has anyone tried to mod the smartcast fishfinder.
I am making the mods from the info i have got off the net.
Done the duck so far, moved the guts into a box and just ran wires to the bits in the bottom.
I can now change the battery in the duck, so i dont have to get a new unit every 400 to 500 hours of use.
Will be doing the handset tomorrow and if that goes well i should get 150M+ from the unit.
I will be fixing it to the bait boat for long distance work.
I will keep you all posted on how its going.

Re: smartcast mods
Hi Floppy
Think my sender unit battery has expired, how do you change the battery? £30 for a new unit?
Cheers

Re: smartcast mods
Hi, try this link, it shows you how to change the battery or mod it to take a 3v batterypack. you have to be careful of you can melt stuff. i have done all the mods and it works well, not got it to its limit as yet but it was tested at over 150 yards. hope that helps.FishyBrian wrote:Hi Floppy

Well as i have done all the mods to the smartcast, if your not sure just ask.FishyBrian wrote:Thanks Floppy i'll give it a go.

just seen an ad on tackle trader for the mods, (you get the full units with the mods) £445.00
now if you ask me, you can get a new smartcast unit for about 200 quid, so hes charging well over 200 quid for the work, the bits are well less then 60 quid, takes about 2 hours to do the mods, work it out.
i can do the full mod on your unit for about 100 quid, and thats charging for my time as well as the bits.
