Carp Everywhere! Empty Carp Everywhere!

Post by Martin Wed Jan 21, 2009 2:54 pm

Hi guys, I was moaning talking to other anglers in the shop over the past few days regarding the lack of carp fishing lakes in the Southwest. By carp lakes I means lakes holding double figure carp, carp that you would use carp rods and tactics to catch. I thought of Dores Pond, Abbrook Pond, Creedy Lakes, Stafford Moor and maybe Goodiford Mill which if this is all we have is pretty poor and makes carp fishing a bit of a problem in the Devon area. However on thinking back to conversations with other anglers over the past fifteen months I realised that there are quite a few more lakes that hold larger carp. (Don't moan SM this is in the Carp Fishing section).

Below I have listed some that come to mind and I will try and link them to any websites that they may have or that have information on them.

Devon

  1. Squabmoor, Woodbury - http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/index.php?id=482
  2. Legge Farm Fishery, Highhampton - http://www.leggefarm.co.uk/site/site.html
  3. Milemead Fisheries, Tavistock - http://www.milemeadfisheries.com/page2.html
  4. Newcourt Barton, Cullompton - http://www.newcourtbarton-devon.co.uk/devon-fishing.htm
  5. Oaktree Fishery, South Moulton - http://www.oaktreefishery.co.uk/fishery.htm
  6. Simpson Valley Fishery, Holsworthy - http://www.fishsouthwest.co.uk/venuesdevonsimpsonvalley.htm
  7. Furzebray Carp Lakes, South Moulton - http://www.furzebraylakes.co.uk/lake.html
  8. Creedy Lakes, Cullompton - http://www.creedylakes.com
  9. Stafford Moor, Winkleigh - http://www.staffordmoor.co.uk
  10. Four Ponds Fishery, Tiverton - http://www.fourponds.com/fishing.htm
  11. Salmonhutch Fishery, Cullompton - http://www.salmonhutch.co.uk/thelakes.html
  12. Goodiford Mill Fishery, Cullompton - http://www.goodifordmillleisure.co.uk/new_page_8.htm
  13. Coombelands Fishery, Cullompton - http://www.gethooked.co.uk/featured/coombelands/coombelands.htm
  14. Spires Lakes, North Tawton, Okehampton - No Web Site
Well there's fourteen to be getting on with, one for each month of the year plus a couple of bonus fisheryies and if we stray into south Somerset or West Dorset there will be a lot more.

The plan is to fish at least one of these per month, if your up for it that is Thumbs Up

A few more to look at:

Bussells Farm, Stoke Cannon (ish) - http://www.bussellsfarm.co.uk/fishing/index.html
Millhayes Fishery, Cullompton - http://www.gethooked.co.uk/featured/millhayes/millhayes.htm
Warleigh Barton, Plymouth - http://www.gethooked.co.uk/featured/warleigh_barton/warleigh_barton_fishery.htm

Darts farm at Topsham very hard water but good size & condition fish. Sea scale the biggest carp was landed in January at just under 30LB. my Pb for this year comes from here at 28Lb.

Thats what happens when you dont get to fish every weekend. I noticed you did not put upham carp ponds on, there is now a new specimen lake been built, that has some good fish in it. A few friends of mine fished it last week and caught some respectaple carp. maybe worth a try before the holiday makers get there in the summer!
